Some beautiful species of creatures are already extinct from our planet while many are critically not far from extinction in near future.
Aye Aye
This queer looking nocturnal creature with eyes full of scare and alarming looks are found in the rainforests of Madagascar. They build their nests high in the trees but they would rarely sleep in it for two successive nights, a behavior akin to their looks!
Albatross
This species of sea-bird is a dynamic soarer. They have an incredible ability to cover thousands of miles within a short period of time.They are found across the southern Pacific sea and islands; today only 19 out of the 21 known Albatross species remain.
Blue Whale
Despite being existent in seas all over the world, they are endangered today. They are known as the largest animal species. A Blue Whale could grow more than 100 feet in length and weigh more than 150 tons. African elephant comes next which weigh just 5000 kgs!
Royal Bengal Tiger
This elegant and regal species of Tiger are found in the jungles of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. Killing tigers was a favorite pastime of emperors and hunters. Their skins are smuggled for unbelievable prices. Only 2000 of Royal Tigers are alive today.
African Wild Dogs
African Wild Dogs are intelligent, fearless, ferocious and attacking. They are highly sociable species of canines, restricted to the National Parks across southern Africa. Their highest population is found in Botswana and Zimbabwe. Only 5000 African Wild Dogs remain today.
Sumatran Orangutan
Natives to Indonesian islands, Sumatran orangutans are confined to just two islands to the present date. Highly intelligent and greatly sociable, they share 96.4% their DNA with humans! (OMG, the remaining 0.6% makes so much of difference!) Unfortunately, they are critically endangered today and as little as 3500 population remains today.
Saola
This antelope species was not known to man before 1992. They are natively found in the forests on the border of north-central Vietnam and Laos. Exceedingly rare and elusive, they have been declared critically endangered species as only 250 of Saolas remain.
Radiated Tortoise
They are the most beautiful of all Tortoise species. Their colors and designs are so attractive! Officially declared as critically endangered species, they are found on the island of Madagascar. One of the Radiated ones has been documented to have lived for 250 years witnessing as many generations of its own family!
Axolotl
These amphibians are found in lakes near Mexico city. They have a great demand all over the world and kept in aquariums owing to their attractive features and colors. Only a few them are remaining to date; they are declared one of the critically endangered species.
Butterfly Fish
This species of fish with a variety of vibrant colors are distributed throughout the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. The extensive destruction of the coral reef and pollution of sea waters have contributed to their dwindling pollution.
Red Wolf
Garnished with a distinctive red fur, these wolves are found on the coastal marshlands of southern North America. As only 100 of them remain, they have been declared critically endangered species.
Sumatran Elephant
These elephants are found exclusively on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Declared as critically endangered species, 80% of their natural habitat has been destroyed due to deforestation and for palm oil plantations. Only 2000 Sumatran Elephants remain today.
Manatee
Manatee is associated with the mermaids in ancient folklore. Commonly known as the sea-cow, these marine creatures are found in the warm waters of the eastern hemisphere around subtropical regions such as Florida and the Caribbean.
Armadillo
The outer shell of this rodent which looks like metallic bony plates is so thick that it can ricochet even a 9 mm bullet. 20 species of Armadillo still exist on the American continent. This animal has a unique ability to curl up into a ball when some danger foretells.
Sloth
This happy-go-lucky looking creature is native to the jungles of central and South America. Sloth is a prolific eater and awful sleeper.
Javan and Sumatran Rhinoceros
Both critically endangered species, Javan rhinoceros are found in the tropical bushlands of Vietnam and on the island of Java and, Sumatran rhinoceros id found on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. Only a handful of these rhinos remain as they are extensively poached for their horns.

Fossas are skillful hunters. They can climb up the trees so easily. They are found exclusively on the island of Madagascar; less than 2000 fossas exist today.
Galapagos Tortoise
These giant tortoises can measure over four feet long! These mini dinosaurs are found on the Galapagos islands.
Bornean Orangutan
Yet another critically endangered species of Orangutan are indigenous to the island of Borneo. Their nests are beautifully formed by entwining leafy branches of the trees. Bornean Orangutans prefer spending most of their lifetime in these canopied houses. They are critically endangered and only 13000 of them are left.
Cross River Gorilla
Critically endangered species, found in the tropical jungles of Nigeria and Cameroon with an estimated remaining population of just 2000 individuals remaining.
Cottontop and Golden Lion Tamarin
Critically on the verge of extinction, these pretty delightful tamarins are poached for their soft fur. Cottontop tamarins are found in the forests of South America with just 6000 population remaining while Golden Lion Tamarin is native to the eastern rainforests of Brazil with just 1000 of them remaining.
