THAT INNOCENT CHILDHOOD

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When the grass was greener, the sun shone brighter in the sky sapphire
When the squirrels, butterflies and I shared one mind though unlike bodies
When flying aimlessly and running jauntily was the only aim in the life
When the mind was as high as stars and as light as a balloon
When the moon was the closest faraway friend to chat with

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When the rainbow I drew was more beautiful than the one in the sky
When the fairy gave me everything in dreams that mom refused
When everyone around liked me so much I didn’t know why
When snuggling up in mom’s lap felt the coziest place in the world
When I complained why the flowers on my clothes didn’t smell

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When the voyages were performed in hundred paper ships I owned
When the castles were built in the air and then on sandy beaches
When splashing in puddles was more thrill than in the bathroom
When a tree of chocolates was promised if I studied hard
When I asked why dogs don’t call their puppies by names

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When nanny’s bedtime stories were as real as my life own
When the princess refused to marry poor prince, I wept
When sleep refused to come until the demon was killed
When I went into sage-like trance while sucking my thumb
When crying near nanny was sure strategy getting wishes fulfilled

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When God was said to watch me over only when I spoke a lie
When I was upset with God when He didn’t send grandpa back
When going on terrace didn’t get me any closer to clouds or stars
When I thought the bishop carried a mobile to discuss things with God
When I asked postman to deliver my letter To God, he said yes

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When I put my ice-cream drawing in the fridge so it won’t melt
When I wondered why birthday comes not more than once a year
When I couldn’t say ‘encyclopedia’ which everybody could, so easily
When I hated the family doctor who pricked me even though not ill
When running nose and weeping eyes mingled into the mouth

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When I wondered why we put locks on the doors while going out
When I wondered how the horses could run after voiding their petrol
When I offered a candy to grandpa if he completed my homework
When I recited my poem holding the newspaper upside down
When I cried at zoo when dad refused to take the monkey with us

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When I felt a king of the kings after I knocked dad down boxing
When I felt on the top of the world after I scored my first goal
When I picked up the receiver and talked with the President
When I took mom’s lipstick to the school to color faces
When I wondered why money was needed to get things from a store

Can anyone bring me back those days,
When I invited strangers in the house to show ‘em newborn puppies
When I offered dad my color-box to paint his white car in colors
When drinking milk was an inevitable punishment I knew not why
When I wondered how TV could contain so many people and animals
When I was not infected with facebook and mobile games
Can anyone bring me back those days….

  1. What a classic! I know this song very well! I definitely cherish those days... the simple times when life was just a breeze and so easy... Good ol' times. Thanks for the reminder! BTW such adorable baby pictures here!
